Construction has commenced on the $790 million upgrade of Liverpool Hospital, including $50 million to build a new multi-storey car park. This redevelopment will bring outstanding health care to the community and showcase Liverpool Hospital as a hub for innovation and medical research upon completion in 2026.

Main works construction activities include demolition of old buildings, construction of new hospital buildings and refurbishment of existing hospital spaces. The works will be delivered by contractor Lendlease and will be programmed across two stages.

Stage 1 works are scheduled for completion in 2023. Key features include:

  • New birthing unit
  • Expanded neonatal intensive care unit
  • New pathology department
  • Additional medical imaging department
  • Emergency Department expansion
  • New hospital main entrance
  • Increased outpatient and support services (general clinics)
  • New pharmacy.
This stage will be complemented by completion of the new multi-storey car park expected in 2022. Refurbishment works to be staggered across both stages of main works. There will be many departments moving into temporary spaces to enable the second stage of main works.

Stage 2 works will commence in 2023 and will include a range of construction activities.
