Planning for the future
Planning for the future
An important part of the hospital redevelopment is the planning of new spaces. In preparation for the new hospital buildings, teams are running through how they will work in their newly designed areas.
Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team, who look after premature babies, recently created a mock NICU patient bay, complete with medical equipment and pretend visitors to help them visualise what the future space might look like.
NICU Head of Department, Dr Jacqueline Stack, said the mock-up of a bed bay was a further step in the journey towards the new NICU being completed. “The new unit is an exciting development and will allow us to continue providing innovative, highquality intensive care for babies and families in the south west.
The planning process has been comprehensive and excitement among the team is certainly building!” she said. The new NICU space will be delivered as part of the first stage of main works, with partial completion anticipated in late 2023 and full completion in 2026.
