Fifteen local high school students recently graduated from the first Junior Construction Pathway Program, and are now equipped with the skills and knowledge to purse an apprenticeship or an entry level position in construction.
Supported by the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP), and in a joint partnership between builder Lendlease, Regional Industry Education partnerships (RIEP) and TAFE NSW skills exchange, the program aims to build a pipeline of local talent over the course of the redevelopment project – taking one day per week, over five weeks to complete.
The pilot program has been successful with one student securing an electrical apprenticeship, two students securing work experience opportunities on the LHAP construction site and four securing interviews with sub-contractors on the LHAP site.
